What should parents discuss with their child before they start living alone?

Before moving out, parents and their child should discuss the budget and payment arrangements for rent, food, and other living costs; daily responsibilities such as cleaning, laundry, cooking, and personal safety; health management and what to do in an emergency; balancing studies with daily life; and whom to contact for advice. They should also agree, based on their preferences, on communication frequency, visits home, and responsibilities for chores and money.
