Do engineering students need to be creative?

Yes. Creativity is useful in engineering and is particularly important in some fields. It does not mean only artistic talent or completely novel ideas; it also includes identifying problems, developing several possible solutions within given conditions and constraints, and improving them through trial and error. It is learned and used together with mathematics and science, logical thinking, and collaboration. Students may use it in classes, experiments, design and production work, and graduation research, but its emphasis varies by university and major.
